SMS and phone number QR code generator

Make a phone number QR code that either starts a call or opens a text message with a pre filled note. It is great for support lines, bookings, and text to join campaigns.

How to create an SMS QR code

  1. Open the Phone or SMS tab. Choose the type that matches what you want to happen when the code is scanned.
  2. Pick call or text. Switch between Call and SMS. Call opens the dialer, while SMS opens the messaging app with your number ready.
  3. Enter the phone number. Type the number with its country code, for example +1 555 010 0100, so it works for visitors from anywhere.
  4. Add a starting message. In SMS mode, optionally pre fill the text, such as “BOOK” or “Hi, I have a question”, to guide the sender.
  5. Download the code. Review the preview and download PNG or SVG. The number is encoded in the code and never uploaded.

Call or SMS in one scan

Call mode builds a tel code that opens the phone dialer with your number ready. SMS mode builds a message with your number and any pre filled text, so the sender just taps send.

Always include the country code so numbers work for people outside your region. Spaces and dashes are fine, and you can leave them in for readability.

Good uses for an SMS QR code

SMS codes are popular for text to join promotions, appointment reminders, delivery updates, and two factor sign ups. A keyword in the message makes the campaign easy to track.

Choose a call code on a poster, a van, or a storefront, where someone might prefer to phone straight away rather than type a number.

Why offline matters here

The number and message are stored inside the pattern, so the code keeps working with no connection and no app beyond the one already on the phone.

That reliability is why tel and SMS codes are common on signage that stays up for months, where you cannot afford a broken link.

Compliance and good practice

If you collect messages for marketing, follow local consent rules and tell people what they are signing up for. A clear keyword like “JOIN” plus a short description works well.

Keep the pre filled message short. Phones preview only part of it, and a brief prompt is easier to understand at a glance.

When to use a short link instead

Use a call or SMS code when the action is simply to dial or text. Use a URL code that points at a fewly short link when you want to open a booking page, a menu, or a form.

The link route also gives you scan analytics, so you can see how many people responded and adjust the campaign.

Frequently asked questions

Will an SMS QR code send the message automatically?
No. It opens the messaging app with your number and text pre filled, and the sender taps send to confirm.
Should I include the country code?
Yes, always include it so the number dials or texts correctly for people outside your region.
Is the phone number QR code generator free?
Yes, it is free with no account and no watermark on your downloads.
Can I use the same code to call and text?
No. Call and SMS are separate actions, so create one code for each if you want to offer both options.
Does SMS cost the person scanning anything?
A normal SMS message may be charged by their carrier, just like any text they send. The code itself has no cost.
Can I pre fill a keyword like JOIN?
Yes. Set the message in SMS mode to a keyword, and it appears ready to send when the code is scanned.
