Use your own domain

Replace go.fewly.tech with something like go.yourbrand.com. People trust a name they recognize, and every link name is yours to use.

You'll need to be able to log in to wherever your domain's settings are, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap or Cloudflare. If someone else runs your website, send them this page.

  1. Choose a sub-domain

    Use a new one like go.yourbrand.com or link.yourbrand.com. Don't use yourbrand.com itself, because your website lives there.

  2. Open Domains and press Add domain

    Type the name and save. fewly shows the exact records to add.

  3. Add the records at your domain company

    Find the setting called DNS, DNS records or Manage zone. Add each record from fewly exactly as shown: its type, name and value. There's usually one that points the name to fewly and one that proves it's yours.

  4. Back in fewly, press Verify

    These changes usually take a few minutes, though they can take a few hours. If it doesn't verify at first, wait and try again. Nothing breaks while you wait.

  5. Use it

    Once verified, a secure https:// certificate is set up automatically, and your domain appears in the Short link list when you create a link.

Two handy settings

  • Homepage redirect: where someone goes if they type just go.yourbrand.com.
  • Not-found redirect: where a mistyped link goes, rather than an error page.

If something isn't working

It won't verify
Check the record's name carefully. Many companies add your domain automatically, so go.yourbrand.com becomes go.yourbrand.com.yourbrand.com. If so, type just go as the name. Then wait a while and retry.
I use Cloudflare
Set the record to DNS only, with a grey cloud, not proxied. The certificate can't be issued otherwise.
The browser says it isn't secure
The certificate is issued a few minutes after verifying. Wait, then reload.
